Pre-Operative Instructions and Information

  • You should not consumeanti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen, Motrin or Advil or Aspirin for 14 days prior to the treatment. The blood thinning nature of the drugs can lead to bleeding during the transplant procedure. Certain over the counter drugs have aspirin as their ingredients and should also not be consumed. Do ask your pharmacist about these drugs to be sure that you do not take them. Consult your doctor as well in case you need alternative medications.
  •  Minoxidil can be used until the day before the hair transplant procedure.
  •  Alcoholic beverages should not be consumed for at least one week. It has the ability to thin blood which can be problematic during the treatment.
  •  Call it quits on smoking at least one month before the procedure. It has been found that the wound healing process is badly affected by smoking. It can also have ill effects on the health of newly transplanted follicles.
  • Vitamins B-Complex and Vitamin E should not be consumed for a week. Also avoid multivitamins that carry them since they can have a slight blood thinning effect which can cause issues during the treatment.
  • Heavy lifting of weights or strenuous exercise should be avoided for one week prior to the treatment. Light exercise is a good option to continue though. Too much exercise can also lead to blood thinning.
  • Hair products gel, hair spray or mouse should not be used on the treatment day. Wash your hair on the transplant day.
  • Do not cut your hair a few days prior to the transplant. Follow the instruction provided to you by the doctor during the assessment. It is best to leave it to the transplant staff to take care of.
  • Have a light meal on the eve of the transplant and ensure that you take in lots of fluids. This should effectively ward off nausea and dizziness.
  • Unless otherwise recommended by the transplant surgeon, ensure that you take your medications on schedule.
  • Do not take any caffeine on the day of the surgery. You can try something decaffeinated since caffeine may keep you a bit edgy and stop you from relaxing which is important during the transplant procedure.
  • Keep clothing loose and comfortable. Wear a button down shirt since a t-shirt will be hard to pull over the head once the procedure is concluded. Loose pants are also ideal to keep you comfy.
  • Get a new baseball styled cap to wear on your way back to home. If not new, it should be clean to avoid any possible infection.
  •  A sedative will be given to you to ensure that you are relax during the procedure. Do arrange for someone to drive you home as there will be some effect of the sedation after the transplant has been concluded.
  •  It is recommended that you keep gel flexible cold packs or icepacks handy. These will come in good to soothe the forehead after the transplant has been done.
  •  You can enjoy a movie of your choice during the procedure to avoid boredom.
  • If you will be arriving from out of town, be sure to reach a day early and stay in town for at least one day after the transplant. We can assist you in finding accommodation and arrange for Taxi for pickup and drop off.
