There are a number of transplant options for hair restoration. However Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) is the cheapest hair transplant procedure available.

In today’s world, hair loss is no longer the nuisance. It used to be a few decades ago. Instead of wearing unsightly and fake looking toupees, one can simply opt for a hair transplant to get the hair back on the scalp. There are numerous procedures that are available for this purpose.

The cost of each of these procedures can vary. The newer techniques cost more than those that came earlier. Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) is one treatment that has been around for ages and still is able to maintain a strong demand despite having more advanced procedures available. It is currently the cheapest option that also offers a high success rate. Let’s learn more about this hair transplant option.

Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT)

It is also known as strip method since a strip is excised from the back and the sides of the scalp (donor area) for the purpose of acquiring grafts for the transplant. The process is performed by the surgeon under local anesthesia so you feel nothing. The skin is then sutured and bandaged.

The strip is dissected under a stereo microscope into individual grafts. Each graft can have one to four hair. The grafts are kept in saline solution to keep them in good health. In the meantime, the surgeon makes incisions in the recipient site for the purpose of grafting follicles in them. This is an important part of the process as the direction of the hair to grow is determined in this phase.

Once the grafts are ready, they are inserted into incisions. This process takes time and each graft is individually inserted. The finer follicles are placed on the front while the grafts with multiple hair are placed in the mid-section of the scalp to build volume.

The grafted hair fall off after a few weeks due to naturally shedding process and start to regrow in about three months’ time. They usually take a year to reach full length.

The Pros and Cons

There is pain after the treatment for which medications are provided. Tightens of scalp is also experienced which can last for a few weeks. There are certain limitations in the days to follow like restricted movement, no massages and avoidance of exercise for a while.

On the flip side, new hair grow out and bring back the natural charm of one’s appearance. Since these hair are naturally DHT resistant, they do not undergo further loss. You can choose any hair style of your liking and feel fantastic.

The Bottom Line

It brings great results and though there is some downtime associated with it, it does save you a fair bit of money.
